Australian Businesses Are Falling Behind On Renewable Energy

A new study by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has found that Australian businesses are falling behind in switching to renewable energy while international businesses are moving towards 100% renewable energy use, thus falling behind and are losing out on cost savings and business from environmentally conscious customers.

The report called “The Business of Renewables” that was launched last Tuesday ahead of the Australia Clean Energy Summit in Sydney found that 92 largest and private companies in the country, 46% only use renewable energy. Even the companies that are early adopters don’t use much of it. ARENA found that companies that use renewable energy and biomass make up only 10% of their energy mix.

Solar is the most popular and then followed by wind and then biogas comes in third. 38% of companies who use renewable energy generates their own power within their premises, while 1/5 purchase GreenPower, which is a government-managed scheme that allows homes and businesses to offset their electricity use with certified renewable energy.
