Electricity Bills Shock Consumers During Baseload Power Crisis

Australians are at risk of rising electricity bills, according to a new report by the Turnbull Government. The government was warned of an upcoming gap in the national electricity supply as many coal-fired power stations are being closed. This also highlighted the urgent need to build new generators to be in operation 24/7 as reported by The Australian.

49% of consumers declared in a report that they will not pay a cent more for renewable power. Since February the number of voters who will not pay for premium went up to 45%.

Other key factors in the report include:

  • The expansion of existing coal-fired power stations is a more viable option to add baseload power as fast as possible.
  • The government also believes that the Snowy Hydro scheme expansion can help in increasing the capacity by 50% to 3,500 megawatt-hours or more.
