Some of the tallest wind turbines ever will be built in Australia and it comes through the Port of Newcastle by next month.
The 200-metre tall turbines will be transported to the Sapphire Wind Farm project located west of Glen Innes in the New England area. CWP Renewables is a Newcastle-based firm and they will be building the $588 million project which will include 75 turbines.
The project corresponds to a turning point in the energy market as market shifts towards renewables and away from dirty coal.
As 10 coal-fired power plants have closed in Australia since 2012, industry insiders are warning that more renewable sources of energy will be needed and built to avoid blackouts and high electricity prices.
