The Irish renewable energy firm DP Energy will employ the engineering firm Downer in building the 150 megawatts solar energy component of the Port Augusta hybrid power plant as reported by PV Magazine.

The project will be Australia’s biggest renewable plant once built, with the first stage having 375 megawatts of wind and solar power. The second stage will produce an additional 300 megawatts of solar capacity and 400 megawatts of battery storage.

The appointment of our preferred key contractors, Vestas and Downer, represents a significant milestone in the progression of the project. We’ve also secured the support of a lead infrastructure investor, which is very encouraging and further ensures the development of the facility.

Simon De Pietro, DP Energy CEO

$600 million will be allotted for the project and 250 jobs will be created during the construction time.
