LG and Foodbank Implement NSW’s Largest Solar Installation on a Commercial Building

Solar Installation Overview

LG Energy  has been instrumental in developing a solar solution for Foodbank NSW & ACT Limited (FBNA) – a charity that helps fight hunger in Australia.

Completed at the end of 2015, the solar project is currently the largest solar installation on a commercial building in NSW.

About Foodbank

Foodbank is a non-denominational, non-profit federated organisation which acts as a pantry to the charities and community groups who feed the hungry.

They operate with approximately 90 employees and over 3,000 volunteers with FBNA having 22 staff and more than 100 volunteers per week.

Solar Project Requirements

The project was initiated to help cut the company’s running costs and to increase the sustainability of their organisation.

FBNA have large chiller rooms and freezers and the costs associated with running these is something they were keen to reduce.

Solar Installation Solution

To solve the energy demands Foodbank required a 250kW system on the roof of their warehouse. LG recommended a solar panel array comprised of the 315W LG NeON 2 Solar Module panels.

Although FBNA operates from a large purpose-built warehouse, future plans for a battery storage system meant that roof space for the panels was limited.

The LG NeON 2 panels have a high efficiency output per m2, which made them the ideal option to help offset a substantial proportion of the organisation’s energy consumption.

Benefits of the Commercial Solar Installation

FBNA now have an alternative energy source to assist with running costs of their operation and the benefits have been numerous.

The solar panels are helping to generate up to 90 per cent of Foodbank’s daily electricity requirements, thereby drastically reducing their electricity costs.
