South Korean battery cell manufacturing firm LG Chem will expand its manufacturing capacity in the United States and China, despite the presence of some regulatory hurdles in China, according to Clean Technica.

The company’s expansion in the US will see the firm’s manufacturing facility in Holland, Michigan grow in size and capacity to keep up with the demand for the Chevy Bolt, Chevy Volt and the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, all of which use LG Chem Batteries. The expansion will start this month and expected to be completed by August 2017.

For the China expansion, LG Chem will be building 2 new plants to support its electric vehicle battery production efforts in Nanjing. Reports also stated that it’s not yet known how much production capacity the two additional plants will add to the factory, but anything less than increasing from 50,000 to 100,000 EV batteries every year would be aiming low since it’s about supplying batteries to the biggest electric car market in the world.
