New South Wales Accelerates Approval For 11 Large-scale Power Plants

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the government of New South Wales has approved eleven large-scale solar energy plants in the past 12 months.

The 170 megawatt Finley Solar project in Riverina will be the first to be approved this year. The project will use 500,000 solar panels. The other ten projects approved in 2017 supported about 1,800 construction jobs. These ten projects will collectively reduce carbon emissions by over 2.5 million tonnes – equal to the emissions from 800,000 cars.

According to New South Wales energy minister Don Harwin, the state has more renewable generation capacity under construction as compared to other states. He also added that the projects will ensure the energy security and with much more in the planning stage.
