In Normanton, 500 km north of Mount Isa in NW Queensland, Doug and Lyn Scouller have built a solar farm that is enough to power almost twice the size of Tasmania as reported by ABC News.

This solar project is a move to prove to stakeholders of the advantages of positioning power generation sites at the end of the grid.

The 5-megawatt solar farm provides electricity that is fed back to the grid at Normanton. Mr. Scouller also believed that he will be able to save losses and possibly put a downward pressure on electricity prices.

The solar farm received an $8.5 million grant from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and is now used as a test case in generating data about fringe-of-grid energy investment.
