Climate Action reported that Queensland Premiere Annastacia Palaszczuk announced that $150 million was pledged in expanding renewable energy capacity in Queensland.

The fund will be handled through the Powering Queensland’s Future Plans programme with:

  • $97 million to be allocated to solar panels in schools.
  • The state government is also developing a new solar thermal plant for baseload electricity generation that will provide $50 million in down payment.
  • $3.6 million will be for decarbonisation initiatives in remote communities.
  • $1 million will be used for the research and energy solutions for the Daintree region.

Our Powering Queensland’s Future Plan sets out actions to make sure we get the balance right, delivering more of the cheapest form of new generation renewables sooner to complement our young and efficient fleet of coal and gas-fired generation.
