[The Australian reported that](http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/nation/solar-exceeds-new-investment-in-coal/news-story/cdde93d6c7e6a5645f9a69d25c0485d2) renewable energy sources, specifically solar power, have exceeded coal generation and now provide 2/3 of the new electricity generating capacity worldwide. Solar power has surpassed investments in coal.

The annual review from the International Energy Agency showed that:

- renewable energy will continue to have a fast uptake and will raise the worldwide electricity generation from 24% to 30% by the year 2022.
- Denmark is predicted to be the leader with 70% of its power coming from solar and wind.
- Ireland, the United States and Germany will contribute 1/4 of power from wind and solar.
