Reports are going around about the Turnbull government thinking of changing the newly proposed Clean Energy Target to give support to the baseload coal over wind and solar. This prompted some concerns among the energy industry as reported by PV-Tech.

The CET (replacing the RET after 2020) is an important part of the plan of making sure that a clean, affordable and reliable energy system can sustain the country. There was also a commercial feasibility study of whether solar, wind and batteries combined could replace old coal power stations across Australia.

Key takeaways include:

  • 9-gigawatt project in the pipeline.
  • Solar is currently the cheapest form of energy generation in Australia.
  • Bigger solar projects will be started before 2020 to reach the Renewable Energy Target.
