Tesla has announced that it will install the world’s largest lithium-ion battery on a wind farm in South Australia under an agreement with the South Australian state government and French renewable energy company Neoen. The mega project will be built and paired with Neoen’s existing Hornsdale Wind farm near Jamestown, North of Adelaide.

Jay Weatherhill said the collaboration will deliver a grid-scale battery that would stabilise the South Australian networks as well as reducing power prices.

The project is intended to sustain 100 megawatts of power and store about 129-megawatt hours which could power about 30,000 homes according to Tesla.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has guaranteed that Tesla will deliver the battery within 100 days of the grid interconnection agreement being signed with the South Australian Government, otherwise, Tesla will provide the battery for free.
