The Greens leader, Richard Di Natale has accused the present Turnbull government of failing to understand that the country’s biggest security threat is global warming as compared to terrorism as reported by The Guardian.
In his address to the Lowy Institute, he criticised Australia’s bid to be on the United Nations human rights council and asking how the country can give any leadership when their “own house is not in order”. He also added that if the country wants to be independent and courageous, it should start creating its own foreign policy that is independent from the United States.
In his speech, he said that Australia is in the middle of an unprecedented retreat under the Turnbull government. Commitments on asylum seekers, human rights, foreign aid, global warming and clean energy investment have all gone backwards in recent years. He says that the Greens are the only party in the country that understands global warming is a national security threat, while also recognizing that the country can harness its vast reserves of renewable energy.
The Greens are calling for global diplomatic efforts towards an international agreement on how they can respond to people displaced by global warming. He also suggested that Australia should start issuing a special form of humanitarian visa for such cases.
Many politicians disregard global warming and says that it’s just propaganda. Global warming is real and its being felt around the world today.
