Permission has been granted to Eco Energy World’s Australia unit to develop and raise the utility-scale PV plant in Queensland. The company is planning to develop an ambitious 1 GW of solar PV in the country within two years according to PV Magazine.
UK solar developer Eco Energy World is looking to take advantage of a growing PV market in Australia through their Australian subsidiary. The company last week was granted consent for a 140 megawatt plant in the country, which will make up part of the huge 1 GW solar power plan that it has over the next two years.
The 140 MW power plant is set to be placed near Maryborough in Queensland and will cost about $280 million. Over 500,000 solar PV modules will be used on the 800-acre project. Construction is expected to start in early 2017. It will be a ground-mounted installation that will include sun-tracking technology
According to EEW Chairman Svante Kumlin, they are pleased for the Aramara area and the Fraser Coast Region. The project will increase the utility solar generation by 140 MW and will create new opportunities for the local community including a large number of jobs and services.
Mr Kumlin also added that they have a unique proposition where their projects are based on a merchant income model, thus the projects are not delayed by PPAs. The company has been very successful in the UK market and they know it began in the same way the Australian market is today.
