A disputed plan to build wind turbines on Lord Howe Island off the New South Wales north coast has been rejected by the Federal Government.
The island of Lord Howe only has a few hundred inhabitants and it its economy is boosted by about 400 tourists at any given time and the island relies on diesel generators for about 70%.
Since Lord Howe is listed as a World Heritage site, the project has to be approved by the Federal Environment Minister Josh Frydenberg but he has rejected the proposal and stated that it would have unacceptable impacts. He also added that the government considered the proposal but the proposed wind turbines would give a considerable and intrusive visual impact.
