Australia’s Biggest Solar Power and Battery Plant To Rise in 2018

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Australia’s largest solar power and battery plant is planned to be built in New South Wales in 2018. Decmil and Maoneng agreed and signed a memorandum of understanding to build a 250-megawatt direct-current solar photovoltaic power plant. The plan is to start construction in April or May, according to Qiao Han, Maoneng Vice president.

The solar and battery power plant key takeaways are:

  • The contract is priced at $27 million.
  • The power plant will be 17 kilometres from Balranald, New South Wales and 140 kilometres SE of Victoria.
  • It will produce about 530,000 megawatt-hours of electricity every year and powering households in New South Wales and Victoria.

It will be also the first solar farm to use battery storage in New South Wales.
